warna-warniWith the idea to understand contemporary issues from a diverse Islamic perspective, ICAIOS (International Centre for Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies) and KSD (Darussalam Group Studies) held a Discussion Series with the theme “The Colorful Islam”.

M. Riza Nurdin has addressed the initial discussion with the topic "The Colorful (Movement) of Political Islam", with Teuku Muhammad Jafar as chair. The discussion was held on Wednesday (28 March 2012) for two hours, and is opened for public.

The issues raised were on the variety of Islamic movement based on certain ideological orientation, in which these movements can be classified into secular movement, modern, radical, traditional, and neo-traditional. Some of them are found in the process of Islamic development in Indonesia, particularly in Aceh.

According to Riza,  ICAIOS Program Manager and Executive Program for the Discussions Serial: "While we may be fundamental in one color, then it's time to move forward to see  other colors (Islamic perspectives).  As a colorful rainbow that consists of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, orange, violet—it is beautiful, so is Islam. It will be beautiful and full of grace, if we are able to recognize and benefit from the colors."

The first discussion went well, and was attended by audiences from different background, such as academician, practitioners, and Islamic studies observers. This discussion series is a regular program which is scheduled to take place twice a week, with diverse themes on Islamic Development, and will be presented by experts or researchers in Islamic studies.
