Saiful Mahdi

Saiful Mahdi is a faculty member in Statistics at Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. Saiful is a Fulbright scholar with a master degree in Statistics from the University of Vermont, Burlington, and finished his Ph.D. program in Regional Science at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He is also the co-founder and first executive director of The Aceh Institute, Banda Aceh. His research interests include discourses in social capital, demography, regional economics and planning, and the use of quantitative methods in social sciences and policy analysis.

M. Riza Nurdin

Muhammad Riza Nurdin (called Riza) obtained his BA in Islamic Studies and Arabic from Al Azhar University, Egypt and then completed a Master Degree in Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Passau, Germany. His research interests are in Sociology and Anthropology of religion, Islamic and the West, social/religious movements and Political Islam. Riza ahs some working experiences with international organizations during post-tsunami programmes in Aceh such as the British Red Cross and the America Red Cross.

Afridal Darmi

Although he has a passion in research works and academic writings, Afridal Darmi is better known among his colleagues as a human rights advocate. Graduated from the Syiah Kuala Law School in 1997 and obtained his legal practice license in the following year, Afridal has spent 12 years of his professional life providing free legal services for the poor and disadvantages, mainly through the Banda Aceh Legal Aid Institute or LBH Banda Aceh. Afridal got his Master of Laws in the field of International Human  Rights Law from the Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago, USA, in 2005. His research focuses include discourses in law and human rights with strong interests in politics and democracy, sociology, psycho-social, and environmental issues.

Arfiansyah (called Iyan) completed his BA in Islamic Theology and Philosophy at the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Ar-Raniry, Banda Aceh in 2004. He obtained his MA from McGill University, Canada, in 2009 after completing inter-disciplinary studies and doing research thesis in politics of Islam in Aceh. His research interest includes politics of Islam, gender, and Islamic thoughts. Iyan works at Islamic Studies Faculty of IAIN Ar-Raniry as teaching staff in Islamic Political Thoughts. He is a certified national mediator, activist and researcher for Center for Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies (CCRPS) of IAIN Ar-Raniry, and an active member of Aceh Researcher Forum (FPA). He is also serves as an executive assistant to Deputy Rector for External, Cooperation, and Public Affairs of IAIN Ar-Raniry.

Rizanna Rosemary

Rizanna Rosemary (called Ijan) is a faculty member in Communication Studies at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh. Ijan had just completed her second master degree in Health Communication from the Media and Communication Department, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Sydney, Australia. She has her first master degree in communication from the University of Indonesia in 2004. Besides teaching, she is currently an active researcher for the Center of Tobacco Control Studies (CTCS) which she co-found with scholars, academics, and activists in 2011 in Banda Aceh. Her research interests are in interpersonal and cross-cultural communication and  mass communication, that is on how mass media can promote health issues, in particular the issue  of “no tobacco use” (tobaco control  campaign).

Cut Dian Fitri

Cut Dian Fitri (Icut) has a BA and master degree in Accounting from Syiah Kuala University, one of the best accounting program in the country. She has worked and had extensive experience in Finance and Accounting with international organizations such as International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nation Population Funds (UNFPA), and Save the Children.

IT Support
Alim Misbullah

Alim Misbullah  graduated from  Mathematics Department, College of Science of  Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, where he majored informatics, in 2010. His experience in the IT field has been accumulated since he was a student as a Network Administrator at Mathematics Department for 2 years (2008-2010). Alim had also been on internship in Taiwan at the Open Source Software Foundry, Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica in the development of Open Source Software CMS Plone for 2 months in 2010. Alim has some working experiences with international organizations. He was  a freelance IT consultant at GFA Consulting GmbH Germany and has also been involved in several training programs with GIZ Germany.

Evi Susianti

After completing her diploma degree in Library Sciences in 1999, Evi Susianti started her profession as a librarian as a volunteer at the library of IAIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh for three months, focusing on  services and circulation. Then she became a librarian at one of senior high schools in Aceh Besar for one year, doing most works on processing and cataloging.  She joined the orphans foundation supported by Muslim-AID Malaysia in developing a library at its boarding school. In 2009, she joined ARTI (Aceh Research Training Institute) as a directing librarian before she become head librarian of ICAIOS at the end of 2009. In 2010 Evie started her program to get a bachelor degree in Library Science at IAIN Ar-Raniry.
