About the Speaker:
Professor Karim Douglas Crow is currently attached to the Council for Research In Values and Philosophy, a global network of scholars and philosophers. He was Principal Fellow at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) in Kuala Lumpur from 2008, and taught at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies in Singapore, and the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (ISTAC) in KL.
He taught Islamic Thought and Arabic Literature for over fifteen years in North America including Columbia University, Fordham University, New York University, and The University of Virginia. Professor Crow took his B.A. from The American University of Beirut, and his Ph.D. cum laude from McGill University in Montreal at the Institute of Islamic Studies.
Professor Crow is a recognized authority on Islamic Rationality, Muslims & Modernity, Islamic Peace and Security Studies, and the Sunni - Shi`ah divergence. He has published numerous articles, book chapters, and monographs in international venues, and several books. Currently he is preparing for publication a major work on `Aql in Islamic tradition, and the thought of Ja`far al-Sadiq.
